The Fugees were an American hip hop group who rose to fame in the middle of the 1990s. Their repertoire included elements of Hip hop, soul and Caribbean music, particularly reggae. The members of the group were Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill (rapper/singer and producer), and Pras Michel (rapper). Deriving their name from the term refugee, Jean and Pras are Haitian, while Hill is American. The group recorded two albums, one of which, The Score (1996), was such a success, just before disbanding in 1997. In 2007, MTV ranked them the 9th greatest Hip-hop group of all time. « Killing Me Softly with His Song » is a 1971 song composed by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. Their version, titled « Killing Me Softly », became a hit, reaching number two on the U.S. airplay chart, and had similar success in the UK, reaching number one, becoming 1996’s best selling single in the country.
