Cœur de pirate (french for “pirate heart”) is the stage name for Béatrice Martin. She is a Canadian pop singer who attempted to conquer France !

Coeur de Pirate represents the romantic and the vengeful side which comes about when you are growing up, that is to say in your infancy, as a teenager or even as a young adult… that’s maybe the reason why teenagers love as much her songs.

She had begun to write songs in her bedroom. She describes it like “a personal therapy, like turning the page on a teenager”. This allowed her to really understand and to analyse certain situations. She started playing the piano when she was only three years old, and later she played as a keyboardist in the post hard-core band December Strikes First when she was 15 years old. Then, she released her debut album Coeur de Pirate in 2008. The album was subsequently nominated for Francophone Album of the year at the 2009 Juno Awards.

In March 2010, Coeur de Pirate received the award for best original song for “Comme des enfants” at the Victoires de la Musique, France’s equivalent of the Grammys.

Way back in 2008, at the age of 3, Jonah Rocks was lining up his Play-Doh cans to make a drum kit. He would sneak all the baby spoons from the cupboard, and use them as drumsticks. His daddy asked him if he wanted a real drum kit, and of course, Jonah said “YES!” Once he sat down behind that kit, and held that first pair of 7A’s in his hands, he has never put them down, playing as much as he can, whenever he can. Jonah is completely self taught, never had a lesson, and if you’ve watched him play, you know he absolutely loves it.
