Chateau-Thierry is a historic town located on La Route du Champagne, at the heart of La Valée de la Marne.
The Champagne Tourist Route (around 600 kilometers) has the advantage of being close to Paris and crosses two regions : the extreme south of Picardie and west of the region Champagne Ardenne.
This area is a marked path to discover the Champagne vineyards and many tourist points of interest. If you want to discover Champagne and its land, just take this road. The route offers wonderful views and a rich heritage : The vine is colorful over the seasons, we can visit a lot of caves, churches, and admire the typical architecture of the region.
Champagne is the wine of kings and the king of wines. And it is also a real homage to the French skill and the French way of life. Its unique taste comes from the northern climate of the region, the chalky subsoil and its particular production with a second fermentation in the bottle.
By the way, as a real French man/woman, don’t forget to enjoy a glass of Champagne!

The Chantilly cream (”whipped cream” for Anglo Saxon) appeared in the hamlet cottage and in the Prince of Conde dairy.
A legend claims that it was invented by the famous French chef, Vatel, who elaborated it for a huge banquet for Louis XIV at the Château de Chantilly (in the Picardy region). We do not know much more about the origin and the making of this emulsion recipe because it had remained secret for a long time. However we know that its success is due to the quality and the freshness of the cream.
For several years, this delicate whipped mixture had become a classic in the French gastronomy and most of all in the pastry!

The captivating lights of the Bay of Somme have inspired many writers and painters: Delacroix, Degas, Corot as well as Colette, Jules Verne, Victor Hugo, Alfred Manessier and many more…
Light and space are the features of this protected coast. The estuary of Somme extends over 70 square kilometers, where we also can see sheepes from “prés-salés”.
Near the bay, the region of Vimeu is nationally well-known for its locksmith and plumbing activities, and spectacular cliffs of white chalk overhang the sea.
The Bay of Somme is one of the major sites of migratory birds transit in France. Lakes, everglades, dunes and “prés salés” make up a “between land and water” landscape. The Widgeon, the Common Shelduck, the curlew, the oystercatcher rub shoulders with seals and sheepes from “pré-salés”. At low tide you can cross with a guide to the golden sandbanks, dug by ponds.

Largest Gothic cathedral in France, Notre Dame d’Amiens is often considered as one of the masterpieces of medieval architecture. This is one of the l argest Gothic churches of the thirteenth century.
The Gothic cathedral of Amiens, massive and breathtaking, is approximately 112 meters above the ground. It has a total length of 145 meters for an internal volume of about 200,000 cubic meters. The area of the church, meanwhile, is 770 square meters. The height of the nave vault is 43 meters. It is built on a Latin cross-shaped, with a nave with aisles, a transept aisles and a choir that includes five vessels.
The three portals of Amiens Cathedral are named (from left to right) of St. Firmin, Beau God and Mother God. They are decorated with numerous sculptures, including saints and apostles.
Color marks on the Amiens Cathedral were revealed during the restoration of the portals, few years ago. Studies have shown that the polychrome was unexpected magnitude, in very bright colors.
For several years, the cathedral of Amiens got its old colors back again during the summer evenings, in a beautiful light show. Thanks to an ingenious process consisting of the projection of light through a translucent screen, the original colors of the statues have been reproduced. A real “Sound and Light“show is available on the forecourt of the Cathedral of Amiens.
