    Hi!

Usually, I don’t like western movies, but this one is special because it’s one of the Coens’ Brothers collection. The actors are really great.

True Grit is a 2010 American Western Film written and directed by the Coen Brothers. It is the second adaptation of Charles Portis’novel of the same name, which was previously adapted for film in 1969 starring John Wayne. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross, and Jeff Bridges as U.S Marshal reuden J.”Rooster” Cogburn along with Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Barry Pepper.

Filming began in March 2010, and the film was officially released on December 22, 2010, in the US, after advance screenings earlier that month. The film opened the 61st Berlin International Film Festival on February 10, 2011. It was nominated for ten Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Bridges), Best Supporting Actress (Steinfeld), Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing.

  • Mel Gibson is back!!!!!

    Hi everybody!

Jodie Foster realized a movie in which Mel Gibson is the main character.

The Beaver is a 2011 comedy-drama film based on an original script by screenwriter Kyle Killen. The film is directed by Jodie Foster and stars Mel Gibson, Anton Yelchin, and Foster. A troubled husband and executive adopts a beaver hand-puppet as his sole means of communicating. A successful businessman and loving father finds a unique means of coping with his debilitating mental illness in this drama from director Jodie Foster. When Walter Black (Mel Gibson) finds himself stuck in a downward spiral, the only solution is to separate from his wife Meredith (Foster) and their two children Henry (Riley Thomas Stewart) and Porter (Anton Yelchin). Just as the once-prominent toy executive nears rock bottom, however, the chance discovery of a beat-up beaver hand puppet offers him a unique chance to pull himself back from the brink. By using The Beaver to speak with others, Walter develops the abilities to express the suppressed feelings that were slowly eating him away from the inside.

On a budget of $21 million,The Beaver was filmed in Westchester County, New York and New York City. A portion of the movie was filmed at White Plains High School in White Plains, New York. Filming was completed in November 2009. Before Gibson was hired, Steve Carell and Jim Carrey were both signed on to star at different stages of production.

I can’t wait to see it : on theater on 25/05 in France.

  • My favorite movie : Reservoir Dogs

    Hi everybody,

Today I want to talk about my favorite movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, you must see it!!!!!

Reservoir Dogs is a 1992 American crime film and the debut of director and writer Quentin Tarantino (the best movie director of all the time!!). It depicts the events before and after a botched diamond heist, though not the heist itself. Reservoir Dogs stars an ensemble cast with Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, Micheal Madsen, Chris Penn and Lawrence Tierney. Tarantino has a minor role, as does criminal-turned-author Eddie Bunker. It incorporates many themes and aesthetics that have become Tarantino’s hallmarks: violent crime, pop culture references, profuse profanity, and a nonlinear storyline.

The film has become a classic of independent film and a cult hit. It was named “Greatest Independent Film of all Time” by Empire .Reservoir Dogs was generally well received and the cast was praised by many critics. Although it was never given much promotion upon release, the film was a modest success by grossing $2,832,029, which made its $1.2 million budget back. However, it did become a major hit in the United Kingdom, grossing nearly £6.5 million, and it achieved higher popularity after the success of Tarantino’s next directorial effort, Pulp Fiction.

A soundtrack titled Reservoir Dogs: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was released featuring songs used in the film, mostly from the 1970s. The music of this film are very great! In 2006, a Reservoir Dogs video game was released which was banned in some jurisdictions for its violence.

    Watch it!!!!!

  • Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris is to open the 64th Festival de Cannes

Midnight-in-ParisMidnight in Paris, the new film by Woody Allen will open the Festival de Cannes on May 11th in the LumièreTheatre, in the presence of the Jury presided by Robert De Niro.

The romcom, which was shot last year in the French capital, brings together a broad international cast, including Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard, as well as Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Gad Elmaleh and Léa Seydoux.
Following London (Match Point) and Barcelona (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), it’s the turn of Paris to be honoured by the lens of the New York film director most appreciated by European audiences.

“Midnight in Paris is a wonderful love letter to Paris”, declared Festival director Thierry Frémaux. “It’s a film in which Woody Allen takes a deeper look at the issues raised in his last films: our relationship with history, art, pleasure and life. His 41st feature reveals once again his inspiration.”

Produced by Médiapro (Spain) and Gravier Productions (New York), and distributed by Mars Films in France, the film is to be released in France the same day it is screened at Cannes. French audiences will thus be able to enjoy it in 400 theatres throughout the country. For this occasion, the Festival de Cannes wishes, with the consent of its partner Canal+ and the support of the national federation of French theaters, to make the Opening Ceremony of the Festival available to any theatre requesting it, so that their audiences can experience live the entire programme of the Opening Night of the Festival.
In this way, the Festival de Cannes underlines the strong ties that unite it with the theatres and their audiences, and draws attention to the films in the Official selection.

The 64th Festival de Cannes is to take place Wednesday May 11th to Sunday 22nd May 2011.

219198_147390255331963_100001829678652_258707_4802369_oHere we are again in May 2011 for a new edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The story continues, the story begins, the story is invented and re-invented every year and at the same time, the festival team and the city of Cannes prepare to greet artists and professionals from around the world. With, shall we say, love, appetite and impatience.
For it seems that floating on the Croisette is a scent of lightness, desire and peace. If each edition has a particular mood, 2011 is already, even before the first screen lights up, very exciting. Why, how and when does public opinion decides that “Cannes will be great this year”? It’s a mystery … and rightly so. Consider what is required: the enthusiasm of the press at the announcement of the selection on April 14th, the arrival of the greatest filmmakers, actors and other film artists, the massive return of professionals, film-buffs, and a vibrant Film Market. As to the weather, unless our favorite Icelandic volcano acts alone over the skies of Europe, we have done everything to make it perfect.
This year, Cannes has installed a little innovation here and there: As a guest, Egyptian film culture, home of great cinema, has signaled to the world their desire for democracy and freedom and like Tunisia, which will is also present, shows how cinema moves to the rhythm of world events; a feast of selections for film crews to meet each other rather than in competition or rivalry, or the stress of an audience’s reaction; Jean-Paul Belmondo, back in Cannes to receive an ovation from the world of cinema; a Palme d’Or of Honor awarded at the opening ceremony to Bernardo Bertolucci from the Jury President Robert De Niro, as his actor in 1900, will look on with fondness.
Between Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris at the opening of the festival and The Beloved by Christophe Honore closing, Cannes will deploy its charm, its mysteries and traditions: fifty films in the Official Selection, dozens of guests every day, hundreds of screenings, thousands of film-buffs. The Carnival of Animals too, by Camille Saint-Saens.

We never tire of it either.

    Music!

  • Rounders (with Matt Damon)

Matt Damon stars as Mike McDermott, a law school student torn between loyalty to his girlfriend and his best friend, Les “The Worm” Murphy (Edward Norton).  After having promised his girlfriend he would stop playing poker, McDermott’s resolve is tested when Les is released from prison.

The deeply indebted Les convinces McDermott to sit at high stakes poker games to help pay off old debts.  As they hit up a bunch of amateur poker games, the duo gets into even more trouble when Mike accidentally vouches for Murphy’s debt.  With both of their lives on the line, they have two days to raise $15,000.

The action culminates in a super high stakes heads up match between Mike and Russian mobster Teddy KGB (John Malkovich).  With everything on the line, McDermott must best the man who took his life savings in a heads up match one year ago.

Classified by some as a cult classic, every list of poker movies is bound to have a spot reserved for this movie.  Released in 1998, Rounders was partially responsible for the poker craze of the late 90s and early 2000s.

Have a look at the trailer, this movie is one of my favorite ;)

Starring with Brad Pitt, The Tree of Life is the story of Jack a young boy who’s growing up between an authoritarian father and a loving mother who gives him faith in life. The birth of his two brothers obliges him to share this wholehearted love, whereas he’s confronting the rugged individualism of father obsessed with the accomplishement of his children. Until the day where a tragic event comes to blur this precarious stability.

We used to see Brad Pitt in action movies but this time he’s playing an overwhelming part. Indeed, this movie is actually nominated in the 64 edition of the Festival de Cannes :

    Hi everybody!

Yesterday I saw a great movie with actors that I love ! Blue Valentine is a 2010 romantic drama film written and directed by Derek Cianfrance that premiered in competition at the 26th Sundance Film Festival. It was written by Cianfrance and Cami Delavigne and Joey Curtis, and stars Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling.

The film depicts a married couple, Dean Pereira (Gosling) and Cindy Heller (Williams), shifting back and forth in time between their courtship and the dissolution of their marriage several years later.

Dean is a young high school dropout, working for a New York City moving company. Cindy is a pre-med student living with her unhappy parents and caring for her grandmother in Pennsylvania. They meet by chance and fall deeply in love in a matter of weeks. They rush into marriage after discovering Cindy is pregnant from a previous boyfriend, Bobby . Dean agrees to raise Cindy’s daughter, Frankie, as his own. Before the wedding Bobby, unaware of Cindy’s pregnancy, finds and assaults Dean at his job.

This narrative of their courtship is intercut with that of a weekend near the end of their marriage. By this point, they live in rural Pennsylvania and Dean works at painting houses while Cindy is a nurse. In the hope of resurrecting their troubled relationship, Dean brings Cindy to a motel, but they fight, and Cindy is called away early in the morning to work at the clinic. Dean shows up at the clinic drunk, leading to an intense argument and violent altercation with a doctor. Dean tries to cajole Cindy into giving their relationship another chance due to fear of raising Frankie in a broken home, Cindy argues that their home is already broken. Dean decides to give Cindy space and leaves, though Frankie runs after him asking him to stay. Frankie is encouraged to return to Cindy while Dean walks off into the distance.
